Dear Catholic School Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2017/18 school year! This month, we are welcoming back almost 78,000 students to the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese. A genuine sense of energy and joy is filling our schools. I am enormously grateful for your trust and support of our Catholic school teachers, leaders, and staff members. Each child is a precious creation, and we welcome them back into schools of compassion, rigor, and faith.
This year, we are releasing our new Strategic Plan for Catholic education. Our plan represents our commitment to a strong and vibrant future for our schools. As we envision a future of hope for our Church, much will depend upon how we educate our children in faith and academics. Our plan contains new resources, directions, and investments in the future of Catholic schools. The new Strategic Plan will be publicly available later this month on our website. I encourage you to read the Strategic Plan and contact your principal, pastor, or the Office of Catholic Schools with any questions.
As with prior years, we are once again utilizing a unified theme. This year’s theme is “We Are One Body.” As St. Paul indicates to the First Corinthians, we all represent many “parts,” but ultimately form a single “body.” The Catholic schools of the Archdiocese represent enormous diversity…our schools serve different neighborhoods, geographies, races, and religions. While we celebrate this diversity, we are unified in the single educational mission of Catholic education. We are ultimately part of the Body of Christ, doing our own unique part to spread God’s love in our world.
You are an essential part of the Body that is Catholic education. Please enjoy the video above. My prayers and best wishes are with you in the new school year!
Yours in Christ,
Jim Rigg, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Catholic Schools
Archdiocese of Chicago
