Branches Home Groups

Freshman Branches Group

Branches home groups are made up of about 10-15 high school students who meet regularly in the home of adult leaders. Students are placed into groups by year–Freshman are with Freshman, etc. Meetings are typically held 2x a month on Sunday nights. Sometimes, we will meet at St. Raymond’s in a multi-group setting. Othertimes, groups will meet in the home of their adult leaders.

At meetings, teens discuss issues of importance to high school students—relationships, friendships, stress and how to handle it, temptations and challenges to leading a Christian life (drugs, drinking, lying, etc). They discuss topics, play games, use activities and a variety of mediums to discuss and think about such issues, and pray together. Through it all, they learn how their faith can help them.

What do you do during home groups?

  • Discuss issues of concern or issues that challenge our faith
  • Identify and learn skills that will help you form and develop positive, meaningful relationships with family, friends, and others.
  • Learn how to live your faith in the real world
  • Talk about current events—happenings with teens, our world, and in our families
  • Have fun!
  • Pray together
  • Do service projects (feeding the homeless, shopping for Backpack ministry, making baby blankets for needy, care packages for soldiers)

We currently have about 125 teenagers who participate in 10 Branches groups. Groups will begin meeting in October and usually wrap up mid-May.

Freshman Branches Group

Listen to what a few current teen members like about their Branches groups:

“We always have fun; our group is so funny, so I am always laughing about the conversations we have. “

“I like how my group is all friendly with each other. We always have fun. It isn’t some serious religion session. I really look forward to it.”

“I liked doing activities like “Feed My Starving Children” where I felt like I could give back.”

“I liked that we can be honest and have good, relaxed meetings and discussions.”

“One of my favorite things I did last year was going to Walmart and buying food to donate to the Backpack Ministry. It was a fun experience and it felt good knowing that I helped a less fortunate person/family out.”

BRANCHES LEADERS NEEDED!

We are always looking for adult leaders for our home groups. If you like teenagers and have a willingness to share your faith, your home and life with an amazing group of teenagers, think about it. This is a wonderful opportunity to mentor teens and enjoy the vibrancy and passion of this age. Leaders meet a few times a year for support, faith, and curriculum sharing in order to bring current and engaging ideas back to the teens. The youth minister provides some core lesson plans and ideas to Branches leaders.

We have so many adults who have been Branches leaders over the years, and 9 who are currently engaged leaders. They would be happy to share their experiences and insight with you.
